Undergraduate School and Major: UW – Marathon County for 2 years and then transferred to UW – Madison, Microbiology
Medical School: University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health
Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: Spent a year after college working as a CNA in a skilled nursing facility, which I absolutely loved! Then took a few months to travel, mostly canoeing and backpacking.
Interests / Hobbies: Baking (mostly sourdough), trail running with Aster, downhill and nordic skiing, new recipes, canoeing, pulling shots of manual espresso, learning how to do things on YouTube.
Favorite Food: Homemade spring rolls, pastries and coffee
Favorite Novels: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, 1984, Slaughterhouse-Five, Lord of the Rings, The Name of the Wind
Favorite Hike: Side hikes off the Colorado river in the Grand Canyon, especially Tapeats Creek, Elve’s Chasm, and Blacktail Canyon
Favorite Ski Trail: The Birkie Trail in Northern WI and open tree runs on a powder day
Favorite Beach (doesn’t have to be in Maine): Any beach in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of northern MN, also Willard Beach in South Portland is pretty great for running the pups!
Closest brush with a famous person: Saw Soulja Boy’s bodyguards eating at the hotel continental breakfast on a family vacation, they were huge.
Craziest / Best / Worst Job: Worked as part of the College Pro Painters pyramid scheme the summer after high school, the interview was conducted at a Subway.
If I weren’t a doctor I would be: Baker and a teacher
Medical Interests: Hospice and Palliative Medicine, rural medicine, teaching and mentorship
Personal Goals: Have a flourishing garden with Page, form a connection with the surrounding area and the people, paddle the Penobscot and/or Allagash, be present and find balance between learning medicine and being a supportive partner and dog dad.
Favorite Place in Maine: Mornings on our deck with a cup of coffee or walking around the garden
Why MMC: I’m looking for balance, so the line “the way residency should be” really resonated with me, and the residents and faculty just seemed happy. As someone who was couples matching, it was important for Page and I to find a program that valued us both as a pair and as individuals, which is what we found at MMC. Maine is also a beautiful place to live with 4 seasons and tons of opportunities for outdoor rec when it is warm or cold.
