Undergrad: University of Oklahoma
Med School: University of Oklahoma
Before med school: I went to graduate school at the University of California, Riverside. I got my master’s in Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology and then worked in a lab researching the immune response to anthrax infection. (It sounds interesting, but mostly involved doing ELISAs…all day, every day.)
Favorite Food: Anything vegetarian! I love trying new foods and restaurants (which is one of many reasons I love living in Portland—there are so many amazing restaurants here.)
Favorite Hike: Any hike with an ocean view. After spending most of my life in a landlocked state, I still can’t get over the fact that there are so many trails with amazing ocean views just minutes from my house.
Closest brush with a famous person: I went to grad school in southern California and spent lots of time in LA, but never crossed paths with any celebrities. I did once sit next to Barry Switzer on a plane, but he’s only famous if you’re interested in 1960s-1990s OU/Dallas Cowboys football.
Personal Goals: Be a good doctor. Be a good person. See a puffin (totally doable in Maine!) Make it to Antarctica someday.
Why MMC: I interviewed at MMC relatively early in the season, and I fell in love with the program, the people, and Portland. I left every subsequent interview thinking “I liked that program…but not as much as I liked Maine.” Ranking MMC #1 was an easy decision.
