Jesse Butler

Undergraduate School and Major: Bates College, Bachelor of Science in Biology and Mathematics

Medical School: Tufts University School of Medicine - Maine Track

Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: I worked as an EMT/ED tech for about 3 years in Southern Maine and volunteered at MMC, a teen center, and a free health clinic for people without health insurance. I also taught tennis (did a bit during med school too) and played just about every day!

Interests / Hobbies: Anything outdoors, hiking, skiing, golfing, traveling. Tried teaching myself the piano but I'm still not very good. And well, tennis...

Favorite Food: Popcorn and watermelon! Not necessarily together

Favorite Hike or Ski trail: Mount Pleasant

Closest brush with a famous person: Got an autograph from Roger Federer and have pictures with Jeff Gordon and Patrick Dempsey

Craziest / Best / Worst Job: Trying to teach tennis to a group of 5-6 year olds when I was 17 years old, it was an experience for sure.

If I weren’t a doctor I would be: Probably a marine biologist

Medical Interests: Critical Care, Sports medicine, EMS, medical education

Personal Goals: Learn a little more each day, be a supportive and positive friend, and keep doing the things I enjoy outside the hospital throughout residency

Favorite Place in Maine: Portland of course!

Why MMC: Being from Portland, I love the area and there is so much to do. Coming from the Tufts Maine Track, I spent most of my clinical experiences at MMC and everyone I interacted with was kind, supportive, and wanted me to succeed. The faculty were easy to approach and seemed to love teaching. The EM residents were so friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable, and seemed so close to one another that it made me want to join the community!
