Undergraduate School and Major: University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!)
Medical School: Howard University College of Medicine
Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school:
Interests / Hobbies: I love a good hike or backpacking trip, and I'm really interested in getting into winter surfing.
Favorite Food: Eggs Benedict
Restaurant Recommendation: Taj Indian Cuisine. My girlfriend and I went there for a date during my M4 rotation at Maine Med and we both agree it was the best Indian food we have ever had. The owner was really cool too.
Favorite TV Show or Movie: Interstellar!
What book do you recommend to others and why: The Sun is a Compass. It's a true and really cool adventure story about a scientist who leaves the lab for 6 months to trek from Washington State to the Yukon. The overriding theme is about finding a balance between passion for work (and science) and passion for all that the natural world has to offer. It's exciting, impactful, and beautifully written.
Favorite Hike or Ski trail: Blood Mountain in Georgia, and a close second is Liverpool Hut in New Zealand
Favorite Beach (doesn’t have to be in Maine): Hilton Head Island, I went there every summer with my family growing up.
Closest brush with a famous person: Had lunch with Chris Tucker (and I was relentless with Rush Hour references).
Celebrity I most resemble: I can't think of one but I'll go with Spongebob since I look handsome wearing a tie
Craziest / Best / Worst Job: My favorite job I had was working as an endoscopy tech for a GI practice in Atlanta. I learned a ton about what it actually means to work as a health professional and made some lifelong friends with my coworkers.
If I weren’t a doctor I would be: A high school AP world history teacher
Medical Interests: I'm interested in community/rural EM once I'm an attending, and possibly a critical care fellowship.
Personal Goals: I'd really like to become a medical correspondent at the local and/or national level. My father is a journalist and I have always admired his ability to communicate important stories and news. I'd like to use my knowledge as a physician and passion for writing to reach out to my community at home and at-large.
Favorite Place in Maine: Right now Higgins Beach but I can't wait to get up to Acadia
Why MMC: I chose MMC because I was drawn to the culture of being "doers and not callers." As an EM attending in the future, I want to be able to handle anything and everything that walks through my door. During my M4 away rotation at MMC, I was incredibly impressed by the confidence, ability, and autonomy that the residents had. In addition, I noticed that every attending I worked with was excited to teach, and great at it too. I was able to make tangible improvements from shift to shift which was a very fulfilling feeling. Ultimately MMC lived up to their reputation of being doers and not callers, and the people at MMC are absolutely fantastic.
