Tucker Nixon

Undergraduate School and Major: University of Vermont - BS Nuclear Medicine

Medical School: Pacific Northwest University

Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: I worked in hospitals and outpatient imaging centers as a nuclear medicine & MRI tech. With that background I was able to live in some very cool places where I spent several years exploring the Tetons, the Cascades, and the Tahoe Basin. Many blisters, tire punctures, and core shots later I have found myself back in Maine where it all started.

Interests / Hobbies: More often than not I can be found surfing Southern Maine, fishing the tidal inlets, riding anything with two wheels, or skiing New England’s finest.

Favorite Food: Is it a red snapper? Is it pizza? Honestly, whatever can be cooked on the grill is something I can get behind.

Restaurant Recommendation: Rose Foods, come for the bagels stay for the free coffee refills

What book do you recommend to others and why: Barbarian Days

Favorite Hike or Ski trail: During my time in Wyoming I fell in love all the ski terrain in Granite Canyon out the gates at JHMR. For the views, it's hard to beat Roys Peak Track in NZ.

Favorite Beach (doesn’t have to be in Maine): No way to just pick one! I'll toss a couple out there. Cox Bay in Tofino, Baleal Sul in Portugal, or for a Maine spot, Pine Point for free parking options.

Closest brush with a famous person: Sharing a hotspring with Shaun White.

If I weren’t a doctor I would be: A pilot!

Medical Interests: I love the applicability of wilderness medicine to my life outside of the hospital.

Personal Goals: To show up and work hard everyday. To come out of residency prepared for the next step whether that be further training or working out in the community.

Favorite Place in Maine: Anywhere I can take a dip

Why MMC: I was fortunate to complete an away rotation in the department during the summer months where I had an incredible experience with a ton of learning, the ideal amount of support, and awesome lectures and sim time. The department is full of wonderful people that left a lasting impression on me.
