Undergraduate School and Major: Dartmouth College, History
Medical School: Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth
Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: I raced as an alpine ski racer through college, went to a dedicated ski academy in VT for high school and used to travel to South America during the summers to train. I used to work as a ceramic studio instructor - I still make pottery and sell it on Etsy. I did research with DHART (Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team) and got to fly all over New England on transports.
Interests / Hobbies: Skiing, trail running, biking, sunset hikes, pottery, woodworking, gardening, baking ...skiing, adventuring with my dog Lucy!
Favorite Food: Whoopie pies and their relatives - ice cream sandwiches and Oreos
Restaurant Recommendation: Schilling in Littleton NH - German style beer and pizza on the river after a long day hiking or skiing!!
Favorite TV Show or Movie: I watch a criminal amount of The Office
What book do you recommend to others and why: The Last Traverse by Ty Gagne - a gripping winter hiking rescue story that takes place in Franconia Notch - the intersection of my love for hiking and emergency medical care.
Favorite Hike or Ski trail: Franconia Ridge Trail
If I weren’t a doctor I would be: Ski coach, potter, or a carpenter
Medical Interests: Rural medicine, austere medicine, sports medicine, critical care transport
Favorite Place in Maine: Our family has a very rustic camp in the middle of nowhere on West Grand Lake that you get to by boat or ATV. It is so peaceful, serene and quiet! A great place to recharge
Why MMC: As someone who spent most of their life in neighboring NH and VT, I wanted to branch out and train in a more urban setting while still getting excellent training in rural emergency medicine. I was lucky enough to rotate in the MMC ED as a visiting medical student and the people couldn't be beat! I was so impressed by the level of competence of the residents, the support of the faculty, and the high volume of procedures and access to things like ortho! I also wanted to train in an area where I could get excellent clinical training without sacrificing my need to be outdoors. While Portland is the biggest place I've ever lived, the city is awesome, there is so much to do, incredible outdoor spaces and you're right on the ocean! So psyched to be here!
