Undergraduate School and Major: University of Utah, Bachelors in Medical Laboratory Science
Medical School: University of Utah School of Medicine
Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: Before medical school I worked for six years at ARUP laboratories; 2 years in Anatomic Pathology and 4 years in Mass Spectrometry. My wife and I converted a van and traveled the country and Canada. We also traveled to countries in Europe, Central America, and the Caribbean. We had two children before medical school, Griffin and Watson. We had our third boy, Conrad, during medical school.
Interests / Hobbies: Climbing, hiking, skiing, music, skateboarding. Too many to be honest!
Favorite Food: Pizza - because I’m a child.
Restaurant Recommendation: DuckFat. Because everything in the menu is transported through a sea of duck fat making it all taste divine.
Favorite TV Show or Movie: Breaking Bad and Raising Arizona
What book do you recommend to others and why: Ready Player One. I’m a big pop culture nerd and this is amazing tribute to the pop culture of the 80s. It’s a perfect balance of “flash back and flash forward”, and a great escape from the real world.
Favorite Hike or Ski trail: Don’t have a hike yet, but climbing in Rumney will knock your decorative socks off.
Favorite Beach (doesn’t have to be in Maine): Playa Conchal in Costa Rica
Closest brush with a famous person: My wife, Brighton Peachey, has too many Instagram followers so she’s probably the most famous person I know.
Celebrity I most resemble: I’ve heard Matt Damon.
Craziest / Best / Worst Job: Anatomic Pathology - Gross Room. Literally cutting up body parts and other things that are taken out of patient’s bodies. If you’ve never seen toxic megacolon in the flesh, you haven’t lived!
If I weren’t a doctor I would be: Carpenter
Medical Interests: Ultrasound. Medical Education
Personal Goals: To become the best physician, dad, and husband I can be.
Favorite Place in Maine: Acadia National Park
Why MMC: So many reasons. I initially heard about MMC from my mentor in Utah and then from a fellow Utah medical student (who is also here at MMC with me!). They had nothing but amazing things to say about the program. During my interview I immediately felt a connection with the people here. They all loved working at MMC and all seemed to love working with each other. The team here is so supportive and truly love what they do. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome and helped me adjust to life in Maine. The EM program is highly respected at MMC and it’s easy to see why when you get here. I couldn’t ask for a more talented, knowledgeable, and supportive group of people!
