Undergraduate School and Major: Duke University, Biology
Medical School: Penn State College of Medicine
Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: After college I just worked enough so that I could save up to backpack around Southeast Asia for several months (on less than $30 per day). I came back from traveling and got a job as a ski instructor at Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado and worked there for several ski seasons. In between ski seasons, I worked for a global health nonprofit and was able to do a lot of traveling around the world. Doing global health work got me more interested in medicine, and I eventually got a job in my hometown in Summit County, Colorado as a medical assistant at a Federally Qualified Health Center. All the docs I worked with there were incredible and totally persuaded me to apply to medical school!
Interests / Hobbies: skiing, biking, scuba diving, hiking, silver smithing, my yellow lab named Tilly
Favorite Food: thai food (panang curry or pad see ew)
Favorite Movie: Cool Runnings? I don’t remember movies.
Favorite Hike: Everest Base Camp
Favorite Ski Trail: the front bowl at Breckenridge
Favorite Beach (doesn’t have to be in Maine): Duck, Outer Banks NC
Closest brush with a famous person: I ran into Bruce Springsteen at a bar in college… I have a photo to prove it too.
Craziest / Best / Worst Job: Best job was a ski instructor. I especially loved teaching little kids who have 0 fear and 100% stoke!
If I weren’t a doctor I would be: full time silversmith
Medical Interests: wilderness medicine, addiction medicine, social medicine
Personal Goals: To love my job as a great ER doctor, to be a great partner to my husband Adam and to just live a happy, appreciative and fun life!
Favorite Place in Maine: I just got here and have only explored locally around Portland but so far crescent beach has been my favorite… and every single place I have eaten a lobster roll from.
Why MMC: The people. All of the people I met at Maine Med through my virtual rotation and my interview seemed like the kind of people I wanted to surround myself with- genuine, down to earth and fun. Maine had the perfect balance of community and academics that I was looking for and I knew I would get stellar training to practice anywhere, especially with unopposed ortho/optho/ ENT. Finally, I knew I could be very happy outside of work, having access to the things I love while living in Maine.
