Kim Doane

Undergraduate School and Major: University of Portland, Biology

Medical School: University of Utah

Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: I spent much of my childhood exploring Utah and the intermountain west through competitive snowboarding in the winter and biking/hiking/gallivanting in the summer. In college I found a new passion in ultimate frisbee and got my first job in healthcare as a scribe in the ED. I eventually moved back to Salt Lake and did research on cyanide poisoning.

Interests / Hobbies: Snowboarding, biking, coffee, climbing, ultimate frisbee, baking, eating, fishing

Favorite Food: Burritos

Restaurant Recommendation: Central 9th Market, best breakfast sando I've ever had.

Favorite Hike or Ski trail: The Y-Couloir in Little Cottonwood Canyon, mostly for the pucker factor.

Favorite Beach (doesn’t have to be in Maine): Playa Del Coco in Costa Rica

Closest brush with a famous person: When I was a wee little grom, I snuck under the fence at a halfpipe competition to have Shaun White sign my jacket.

Celebrity I most resemble: Someone recently told me I look like the actor that plays Pennywise the clown -__-

Craziest / Best / Worst Job: I was a ranch hand for many summers in my youth which came with many blisters and bruises and lessons and incredible mems.

If I weren’t a doctor I would be: A barista so I can have a constant supply of that hot brown.

Medical Interests: EMS, ultrasound, rural medicine, street medicine

Personal Goals: Have fun and learn new things!

Favorite Place in Maine: My sample size is limited, but Higgins Beach is special for me because it was the first place I went after my red-eye flight to ME for my away rotation. I "surfed" in the chilly waters without a wetsuit and could tell this was the start of something good.

Why MMC: When I rotated here, I could immediately feel a sense of camaraderie, community and support in the context of incredible training. The residents made me feel welcome and the attendings consistently went out of their way to teach me.
