Undergraduate School and Major: Colby College, Biology
Medical School: New York Medical College
Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: every restaurant job, landscaper, deckhand, NOAA fisheries observer, research coordinator in a psychiatry department
Interests / Hobbies: surfing, fishing (fly/spin/inshore/offshore/fresh/salt), snowboarding, freediving, hockey, tennis, pick-up basketball, lawn games, hiking, hunting, climbing, reading
Favorite Food: maybe sushi, but can’t think of anything I won’t eat and enjoy
Favorite Novels: A River Runs Through It, Life of Pi, Fahrenheit 451
Favorite Movie: Gladiator, The Revenant, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Remember the Titans
Favorite Hike: the goat trail down to Honolua Bay, Maui
Favorite Ski Trail: anything steep and deep out west
Favorite Beach (doesn’t have to be in Maine): La Loberia, San Cristobal, Galapagos Islands
Closest brush with a famous person: College summers I worked at a busy restaurant in my RI hometown and came across some big names: Bruce Willis, Danny DeVito, Vanessa Carlton, Robert De Niro. One night Rob Gronkowski came in for dinner—he was so tall his legs wouldn’t fit so he had to sit sideways at the head of the table.
Celebrity I most resemble: I’m not sure there is much of a resemblance, but a few weeks ago a woman told me I looked like Joel Osteen. Maybe I was having a good hair day?
Craziest/Best/Worst Job: Working on commercial fishing boats for NOAA checked the box for all three depending on the day. Summer on the water was beautiful, winter trips were cold and miserable with regular Nor’easters and 20ft waves—and one trip we collided with another vessel at night, 200 miles offshore, and almost sank.
If I weren’t a doctor I would be: fishing guide or marine biologist
Medical Interests: ultrasound, addiction medicine, mental health (patients and healthcare workers)
Personal Goals: As I progress through residency, I hope to deliver better care today, than I did yesterday, and to learn something from every patient I meet. I also just got married to my amazing wife Kelsey, and I hope to be the best husband possible and support her the way she has supported me.
Favorite Place in Maine: Can’t choose just one, so here’s a few: East Grand Lake on the New
Brunswick Border, Bass Harbor in Acadia, Moose Pond in Bridgton, Fortunes Rocks Beach in Biddeford
Why MMC: I was scheduled to do an away rotation at MMC in the fall of 4 th year, which ended up being virtual due to COVID. Even through a screen, it was easy to recognize that the program was special. Residents and program leadership were incredibly smart, but super approachable, and clearly enjoyed each other’s company. It doesn’t hurt that I love Maine, and Portland has it all—great surf, fishing, lakes, mountains, all just a short drive away, in a walkable city, with awesome food and friendly people. The only person happier is my wife!
