Undergraduate School and Major: Montana State University - Ecology
Medical School: University of Washington - Montana WWAMI
Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: US Army Combat Medic, Big Sky Ski Patroller, Urgent Care Medical Assistant, EMT Course Instructor
Interests / Hobbies: On my days off you can usually find me out fly fishing one of the rivers, skiing the nearby hills, or sampling the endless variety of microbrews around Portland! My wife, Emme, and I (as well as our dog Madi) are also avid dog park enthusiasts!
Restaurant Recommendation: Olive Cafe - They serve Lebanese food, and some of the best Shawarma I have ever had!
Favorite TV Show or Movie: All Creatures Great and Small
What book do you recommend to others and why: When Stars are Scattered by Omar Mohamed: This is a graphic novel that follows the journey of two brothers as they grow up in a refugee camp in Kenya. It is a super easy and fun read that gives you a glimpse into what refugees endure on a day to day basis.
Closest brush with a famous person: I once worked EMS on a movie set for "Certain Women" which was filmed in a tiny town called Clyde Park, near Bozeman, Montana, and I got to meet Kristen Stewart!
Craziest / Best / Worst Job: Right out of high school, I got to work for the USGS on a Grizzly Bear DNA project, and basically got paid to hike around the gorgeous Cabinet Mountains in NW Montana, look for Grizzly bears and collect their hair samples from bait sites! It was the best summer of my life!
Medical Interests: I got my career start in Search and Rescue and Ski Patrol, and I would love to get back to doing that someday! I have also really enjoyed all Pediatric EM rotations so far, and plan to pursue opportunities in this field more as I progress through my training.
Why MMC: Throughout medical school I kept running into attendings (in Montana and Washington!) who trained at MMC who couldn't say enough amazing things about the program! During my interview, I really connected with every one of the faculty members and residents, which made me feel welcome and at home. I really got the sense that everyone in this program is part of one big supportive family. I came from a "WWAMI-ly" and was so excited when I found my "Maine-ily"!
