Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: Before medical school, I worked as a regional manager as well as the lead data analyst for a nonprofit organization in Denver, CO that provided free tutoring to children of underserved communities. I also travelled around Europe, skied as much as possible, went on several rafting and backpacking trips, and went fishing when I could.
Interests / Hobbies: Skiing, biking, backpacking, rock climbing, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and playing the piano. Generally anything outside, or anything that involves tinkering.
Favorite Food: Pad Thai (the spicier the better), raw oysters, raw spinach, or anything covered in buffalo sauce.
Restaurant Recommendation: High Roller Lobster Company. Fun retro vibes with fresh caught oysters and lobster. Nice selection of sauces as well as other types of food too! Lil Chippy is also fantastic, $1 oysters at happy hour and $3 ‘Gansett. Can’t go wrong.
What book do you recommend to others and why: The Thursday Murder Club. Very well written mystery, but absolutely hilarious. They just released its film counterpart on Netflix too.
Best Arts Experience: The Book of Mormon on Broadway.
Favorite Hike or Ski trail: Filip’s Leap in Aspen, CO (I have to go with the hometown)
Favorite Beach (doesn’t have to be in Maine): Crescent Beach
Celebrity I most resemble: Doogie Howser, M.D. (or a young James Franco)
If I weren’t a doctor I would be: A backcountry guide, botanist, environmental scientist, or farmer.
Medical Interests: Wilderness medicine, sports medicine, pain medicine, and Bayesian reasoning.
Personal Goals: I would love to have my own little homestead where I am able live mostly self-sufficiently.
Favorite Place in Maine: The Carriage Trails of Mount Desert Island.
Why MMC: The learning environment. When I interviewed here for medical school, I was captured by the encouraging and welcoming nature of the faculty. I thought it was too good to be true, but having spent time at MMC as a student, I was shocked at how supportive, kind, and collaborative everyone was.
I also firmly believe that between the world class faculty, breadth of pathology, patient volume, procedural variety and volume, mixture of rural and academic medicine, I would truly become a world class emergency medicine physician after training here. The combination of the culture, training, and location made the decision to rank Maine Medical Center for high residency extremely easy. I am so excited to be staying here for residency!
