Undergraduate School and Major:
University of Nebraska - Lincoln
Medical School:
University of Nebraska Medical Center
Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school:
I grew up in rural western Nebraska and spent my summers and free time working on a cattle ranch. I played football for the first two years of college at a small school in South Dakota. In college, I worked as a grocery store clerk, pizza delivery driver, and nurse aide.
Interests / Hobbies:
I like road trips to beautiful places where I can hike and camp and generally be outside as much as possible. I love cooking and trying new places to eat, listening to music and attending concerts, reading/listening to books, and watching movies. I have also recently added yoga to my workout routine!
Favorite Food:
I feel like I have to say a good Nebraska steak, but sushi and tacos are a close second and third.
Favorite TV Show or Movie:
TV: The Wire, The Sopranos, Nathan For You.
Movie: Cool Hand Luke, Paper Moon, Sing Sing
What book do you recommend to others and why:
To name a few: Stoner by John Williams, Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut, East of Eden by John Steinbeck. All at one point made me think, “This is the best book I have ever read.”
Best Arts Experience
Two bands that have put on an amazing concert every time I have seen them are Caamp and Mt Joy.
Favorite Hike or Ski trail:
My favorite hike to date is Cascade Canyon in Grand Teton NP. It has all the elements one would want in a hike: mountains, streams, waterfalls, and wildlife.
Closest brush with a famous person:
While visiting the John Steinbeck house in Salinas, CA, I was told I had just missed Josh Brolin, who had been there 15 minutes prior.
If I weren’t a doctor I would be:
I feel that had I applied the same time and effort to becoming a rodeo clown as I had to becoming a doctor, I could have been among the very best in the business.
Medical Interests:
Sports medicine, Wilderness medicine, Social EM
Favorite Place in Maine:
Acadia NP was amazing. Beehive trail was a standout.
Why MMC:
It had everything I wanted in a program: incredible people and incredible training in an incredible location with so many incredible activities around to do! Incredible! During the application process, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to work in a community environment or a more academic one, and with MMC, I didn’t have to choose. Additionally, I was impressed by the fellowship opportunities I may have down the road. I had visited Maine only once before starting residency, but I loved it so much that the second I left, I knew I’d be back.
