Max Auerbach

Undergraduate School and Major: University of Vermont, Bachelor of Arts in Biology

Medical School: University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine

Life/professions/adventures prior to attending medical school: I've worked as a delivery driver, movie theater cashier, camp counselor, behavioral interventionist, and a personal caregiver!

Interests / Hobbies: Boats, skiing, skiing, boats, biking, hiking, outdoors, facebook marketplace, boats, skiing, and other activities that go fast!

Favorite Food: Sushi

Restaurant Recommendation: Central Provisions- the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is really nice! They do small sharing plates so you get to try a little bit of everything. Ranks high on the list of Portland faves!

Favorite TV Show or Movie: Outer Planets of Mt. Mansfield

What book do you recommend to others and why: 50 Best Ski Lines in the Northeast (duh!)

Closest brush with a famous person: Joe Jonas held the door for me once at a restaurant in Miami (I had no idea it was him at the time)

Craziest / Best / Worst Job: Best job is being a camp counselor! You get to have work more hours than a resident all summer with people that end up becoming your closest friends in the world, all for 75 cents per hour. Wouldn't trade it for anything!

If I weren’t a doctor I would be: Helicopter Pilot!

Medical Interests: Wilderness Medicine, Ultrasound, EMS

Favorite Place in Maine: Sugarloaf

Why MMC: When I rotated at MMC, I felt like it was the perfect balance of small enough to feel like a tight-knit community, yet large enough to see everything that I will need to graduate a competent resident. Every team member seemed to love it and that was the type of environment I wanted. On top of that, I fell in love with Maine during my time at UNECOM and knew I would be successful living in a place with such great access to the outdoors, good restaurants, the ocean, and family. My partner and her family are from Maine, and I am really looking forward to the extra support from having them around!
