Visiting Student Rotation

 

Dr. Wendell discusses the medical student rotation with the assistance of APDs Dr. Williams and Weems: 

Maine Medical Center is very excited to announce will be accepting visiting students for our 4th year Emergency Medicine Clerkship during the following blocks:

Block 3: 7/3/23 - 7/28/23
Block 4: 7/31/23 - 8/25/23
Block 5: 8/28/23 - 9/22/23- Wilderness Medicine Rotation
Block 6: 9/25/23 - 10/20/23
Block 7: 10/23/23 - 11/17/23
11/17/23 and forward TBD for Emergency Medicine elective, Tox and US may be available

The following elective rotations are available and can be applied to through VSLO:

  • Emergency Medicine - SLOE generating elective

  • Wilderness Medicine - SLOE generating elective

  • Toxicology

  • Emergency Ultrasound


Visiting Student Diversity Scholarship Program which can be applied for within the VSLO application to the rotation. Please review the criteria via this link and the attached file discusses the scholarship program. Low cost housing in walking distance to the hospital, as well as to all of downtown Portland, is available through the medical center to all applicants. In addition to the Visiting Student Diversity Scholarship Program offered by the department of medical education, the Department of Emergency Medicine will provide up to an additional 2000$ reimbursement to cover costs associated with the rotation for rotators elected to participate in the scholarship program.

Wilderness Medicine Rotation: 8/28/23-9/22/23

Apply through VSLO for this hybrid rotation that includes 2 weeks working in our ED while also learning core wilderness medicine skills. This is then followed by a 2 week backcountry experience with EM faculty and residents as your instructors. This is a SLOE granting rotation.



Student Electives

We will be accepting applications for visiting medical students for rotations following the guidelines set forth by CORD and the Coalition for Physician Accountability Consensus Statement on the Emergency Medicine application cycle. You can also search for our rotation and apply through VSLO.

Search for Maine Med Emergency Medicine. Our core EM rotation is EMR409-MM - Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medicine and we also offer Emergency Medicine rotations in Wilderness Medicine, Toxicology and Emergency Ultrasound.
