The class of 2024 spent this past week at ACEP Scientific Assembly in Philadelphia.



Dr. Madeleine Puissant was awarded an Education and Research Pilot Grant by the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health for her work looking at the physiologic effects of night shift on pregnant workers. This work is being done by an amazing team including Dr. Isha Agarwal, Dr. Tania Strout PhD RN MS, Irit Altman PhD RN and Julia Greenwald (TUSM).



The Department of Emergency Medicine and Division of EMS are excited to announce the new ACGME accredited EMS fellowship. Hosted at Maine Medical center and working closely with the Portland Fire Department and Lifeflight of Maine, this will be an exciting opportunity to develop your skills as an EMS physician working across the state of Maine. Cynthia Gaudet, DO was elected Vice President of the Maine Medical Center Housestaff Association. Thanks for representing our program and taking on this leadership role for residents at the hospital.

CAPE Collaborative wins innovation grant!

A resident team of Dr. Katie Main, Dr. Liz Hamilton, and Dr. Rob Link under the guidance of faculty member Dr. Samir Haydar has been awarded MaineHealth Innovation’s inaugural Bonfire Fund grant for their development of a collapsible aerosolized particle enclosure (CAPE) for the management of Covid patients. We are excited to welcome our newest faculty member Dr. Isha Agarwal. Dr. Agarwal joins us having completed her residency training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA and her MD/PHD at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Agarwal joins the department with a dual appointment at Maine Medical Center Research Institute, the Center for Outcomes Research.

Visiting Student Rotation 

Maine Medical Center is very excited to announce will be accepting visiting students for our 4th year Emergency Medicine Clerkship during the following blocks:

New this year is a Visiting Student Diversity Scholarship Program which can be applied for within the VSLO application to the rotation. Please review the criteria via this link and the attached file discusses the scholarship program. Low cost housing in walking distance to the hospital, as well as to all of downtown Portland, is available through the medical center to all applicants.

Student Electives

We will be accepting applications for visiting medical students for rotations following the guidelines set forth by CORD and the Coalition for Physician Accountability Consensus Statement on the 2021-2022 Emergency Medicine application cycle. Further details will be available soon. You can also search for our rotation and apply through VSLO.

Search for Maine Med Emergency Medicine. Our core EM rotation is EMR409-MM - Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medicine and we also offer Emergency Medicine rotations in Toxicology and Emergency Ultrasound.
