EMR420 VIRTUAL ELECTIVE - Advanced Emergency Medicine Virtual Clerkship

Institution:  Maine Medical Center

Goals and Objectives: 

  • Goals: To become facile with core and advanced EM topics through a self guided asynchronous curriculum, live online didactics, and facilitated small group cases, while also exploring the unique features of Maine Medical Center's Emergency Medicine Residency.

  • Objectives: By the end of the 4th year medical student EM virtual curriculum, senior medical students will be able to: - Understand the core concepts of EM through the Bridges to EM curriculum, geared towards senior level medical students, as well as didactics and workshops posted on DownEast EM website. - Demonstrate focused problem-based histories, physical exams and oral presentation skills through small group work with the Foundations of EM curriculum and virtual OSCE's. - Recognize and appreciate the unique aspects of the Maine Medical Center EM Residency through virtual resident mentors, question and answer sessions with current residents, a virtual tour of the emergency department, and a live virtual meeting with residency leadership.

Dates: 9/1-9/25 or 10/5-10/30 (application deadline 2 weeks prior to start date)

Welcome to Our Newest Faculty:

 

Dr. Bohanske: Mike finished an EMS fellowship at the University of Cincinnati in 2017. He received his MD from Boston University, completed his residency at the University of Cincinnati, and was chief resident his final year. 

Dr. Leger: One of our recent chief residents, a native of the state, Dr. Leger joined our clinical faculty in 2017.

Dr. Lu: Dr. Lu was previously an attending at Northwestern in Chicago while completing a Masters degree in clinical and translational research. David received his MD and a Masters in Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his residency at the Northwestern University Emergency Medicine Residency Program. 

Dr. Wendell: Lauren was previously an attending in the UPMC system (Pittsburgh Residency Program).  She is also a native of the great state of Maine.  She joined our clinical faculty in the summer of 2017.

Dr. Wilson: Christina recently completed the ultrasound fellowship at Mass General. She received her MD from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed her residency at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency Program.
